Clifton Primary School are teaming up with Sport Birmingham and other schools in the local community to drive physical activity initiatives as we emerge from lockdown.

"We have found Moki to be an inspirational tool that gets the children moving not only at school, but at home, too."

It’s all systems go for Clifton Primary School in Birmingham this summer! The whole school of more than 900 children and staff are strapping on their Moki bands in one of the biggest physical activity projects we’ve seen.

“We felt it was important to build a ‘recovery’ curriculum that addresses the children’s physical and mental well-being after lockdown. We have found Moki to be an inspirational tool that gets the children moving not only at school, but at home, too. We hope it will bring families and communities closer together and motivate everyone to keep active.”

Clifton has always been very strong on physical activity. Their Twitter feed is action packed, showing children taking part in the national Daily Mile, Active School Hero and other initiatives. Owen says Moki data will help to make sure the curriculum is always adapting to support the children’s natural energy and active routines.

“The data aspect is something that is really exciting. It’s not just a tool for PE. We already use the Moki bands to help in classes like maths and science, and they have been fantastic for promoting inclusivity. I teach a class of children with special needs, and it is great to see how Moki inspires empathy, with the children encouraging each other to make the most steps.”

Owen was introduced to Moki by Sport Birmingham who, as part of the Birmingham and Solihull Local Delivery Pilot (LDP) and  Active Partnerships programme, are looking to engage people of all ages in a healthier lifestyle.

"We see Moki as a tool that will help us make physical activity part of the everyday routine for our pupils and their families."

“We are an inner city school so for many children, access to wide open spaces is limited. We can help ensure they hit their daily targets of 30 minutes moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) while they are at school, but they should also be doing another 30 minutes every day at home. Moki gives the children a great incentive to keep active all day.”

Clifton works closely with two other local schools, and the ultimate goal is to use Moki to inspire not just children, but the whole community.

“We see Moki as a tool that will help us make physical activity part of the everyday routine for our pupils and their families. Not only is it perfect for sparking a bit of healthy competition between schools, we hope it will prove to be an incentive to get people up off the sofa and enjoy the great outdoors! It really does have the potential to inspire the whole community to get active!”
